Introducing Gstee

Gstee is an aerial photographer hailing from the North Cornwall coast. His works celebrate the diverse tides, light, and seasons of his home county and beyond, savouring the unique, unrepeatable moments that the elements provide.

With no formal photography training, Gstee’s works come as a result of years of exploration and experimentation, led by curiosity, creative expression and a wholehearted love for the ocean. His approach remains fluid, guided by the unpredictable wildness of the environment  around us; immortalising moments and perspectives often unseen.

His focus on large format prints brings the works to life in a tangible, immersive manner. Inviting peace, nostalgia and a blue-mind state of bliss.

About

George grew up in the Midlands, far from the coast, but always felt a pull toward the ocean. Ten years ago he moved to the north coast of Cornwall, where he has found both a home and endless inspiration in the tides, shifting light, and wild unpredictability of the ocean.

For over a decade, he worked as a live sound engineer, touring and supporting festivals and events across the UK. While music and sound shaped much of his life, it was in the quieter moments at home between shows that he began exploring another passion: photographing the ocean.

From an early age he was introduced to the unique aerial perspective and the feeling of seeing the world from above, whilst flying with his dad who was a pilot. Those experiences always stayed with him and years later, picking up a drone gave him a way to reconnect with this perspective and feeling.

Process

From the beginning, his process has been intuitive. The deep blue tones that run through his work are not intended to be literal, but interpretations: a way of expressing how he experiences a place and the atmosphere it carries. His goal is to stay true to the raw moment, while shaping it through his own vision and sharing how he perceives the moment.

Gstee loves the quiet of early mornings, when the light is low, shadows are long, and the world feels empty. Working with the tides, winds and elements to balance planning with spontaneity. Every image follows this journey: from the first spark of an idea, through the shooting and editing and to the final work that holds all his energy and intention.

Turning digital images into tangible works soon became part of that journey. What began with a home printer and second-hand frames quickly grew into an obsession with papers, inks, formats and framing methods. He is drawn especially to large-format prints, for their ability to transform a space and immerse the viewer. Even after hours editing an image, large-format prints still seem to show unnoticed details with different lights and angles.

For Gstee, photography is about more than capturing what can be seen, it’s about celebrating fleeting, unrepeatable moments shaped by tides and light and sharing them in a tangible form. These large-format images invite calm, evoking a “blue mind” state of peace and stillness. For some, it offers escapism; for others, it stirs memories of time spent along the Cornish coast. His aim is to create works that don’t just decorate a space, but transform it, allowing people to carry a piece of the ocean’s rhythm, energy and tranquillity into their daily lives.
